The glaze is so important. The poor texture I got last time (see my old post on decals), I now realise was due to the glaze - a high zinc oxide glaze. The decals did not like it.
So when I use my reliable clear glaze (from Hesselberth and Roy's book Mastering Cone 6 Glazes), the decals were fantastic. They did not even show an edge when fired to 1000deg C, with a slow firing cycle.
These tiles are for Hearts and Minds in Hastings Street, Noosa the images are photographs by Julie Holland
Glossy Black Cockatoos on these bowls decorated with slip transfer printing - finally I am happy with them.
New range of circus bowls - not sure where these will end up yet.
Not easy to photograph - but shows the uneven texture when the decal is put over the zinc oxide rich glaze. Not a good look.
