China in October - ready to go

The flights are booked, the hotels are booked, the route is planned. About 9 ceramics artists from the Sunshine Coast area are taking part in a residency at the Phoenix Ceramic Arts Centre in Jingdezhen for 3 weeks in October. I'm travelling for another 3 weeks, visiting Shanghai, Beijing and Huangshan.

We'll be at the residency with about 10 ceramicists from Brazil. Thanks to Robyn Gill (a member of ArtMakers Noosa) for organising it. Robyn has been to San Bao several times and has been involved in setting up this new centre. It has studio space, kilns, individual studios that can be rented, a huge shop and galleries. We can also bring in local artisans with different skills to teach us for a day or longer, and the kilns are fired by specialists too. It will be a very different working environment.  I'm not quite sure what I'll be doing there yet, but from other reports it's ceramicists heaven. I can't wait. Here are some photos of the centre - it's still being built - so all facilities are new!

Hi Ellen, I'm sure you will love it! I had a friend go to Jindgehen a few years ago before this was built so you will probably get better accommodation. Sounds like an amazing place - they raw glaze porcelain!!

Great to hear all your comments ;-))
I'd love to organise a trip there in the near future - the new ceramics centre sounds wonderful so I hope it lives up to expectations (there have been a few problems at San Bao). I'll try and work something out for next year - not to clash with Gulgong of course. October is the best time to go. 44 sleeps.
